About Us

At Emotionally Healthy Minds, our aim is to provide outstanding support for children, their families and professionals, making a meaningful difference in their lives. Rooted in the Christian faith shared by our Founder and several team members, we are committed to working ethically and delivering the highest quality service—through a team of passionate, skilled, and compassionate professionals.

Our mission

Emotionally Healthy Minds (EHM) is a tutoring and coaching company based in South Woodham Ferrers, Chelmsford, Essex. Our team is comprised of passionate and empathic educators and emotion coaches, all united by a common goal: to nurture emotional health and resilience in children, families, schools and organisations.

Everything we do is built around four key strands:

Our evidence-based Emotion Coaching helps children understand, regulate, and express emotions in a safe and healthy way. Each session is tailored to meet the unique needs of the child, providing compassionate support that encourages emotional growth and self-awareness.

Our Tutoring goes beyond academic achievement—it’s designed to help children thrive both emotionally and educationally. Delivered by qualified teachers in a nurturing environment, our tutoring is personalised and holistic. For those needing deeper support, we offer a blended approach that integrates Emotion Coaching with academic tuition.

We also work with the wider system around the child. Our Parent Consultations provide a confidential, supportive space to reflect, feel resourced, and explore practical strategies for managing emotional challenges at home. These sessions strengthen the parent-child connection and empower families to navigate difficulties with confidence.

Finally, our School and Corporate Training equips educators and professionals with the tools to understand behaviour through the lens of emotional wellbeing. Through tailored workshops and consultancy, we help organisations create compassionate, emotionally intelligent cultures where everyone can thrive.

Our Values

Empowerment

At Emotionally Healthy Minds, we nurture confidence and capability in every student and client. Our aim is to equip individuals with the tools they need to navigate emotional, behavioural and academic challenges with greater independence. Whether it’s a child learning to regulate their emotions or master their seven times table, or a professional leading with emotional intelligence, we focus on building resilience and self-belief—so people feel empowered, not dependent, and able to face life’s challenges with clarity and confidence.

Honesty

Honesty is at the heart of everything we do. We’re committed to open, transparent communication and lead with integrity across all our relationships. We believe safe, compassionate honesty creates the foundation for real growth. At EHM, mistakes are not failures—they’re part of learning. By modelling and encouraging honest reflection without judgement, we create space for children, families and professionals to feel safe, seen and supported in their emotionally healthy journey.

Meaningful Connections

Emotional wellbeing starts with feeling connected. At EHM, strong therapeutic relationships are at the core of our work. We take time to build meaningful, trusting connections with every child, parent, educator and organisation we support. You are never just a number to us. Through consistency, empathy and genuine care, we create a safe space where people feel valued, supported, and able to grow into the best version of themselves.

Our Story

Sarah Petherick

Hi, I’m Sarah and I launched Emotionally Healthy Minds in September 2022. I’m a qualified teacher with nearly two decades of experience, and I’m also an Emotion Coach. But honestly, if you’d known me growing up, you probably wouldn’t have guessed I’d end up here.

I grew up on a council estate and was never a natural academic. I didn’t really try at school. I mucked around a lot, got some pretty poor GCSEs and A-Levels, and I definitely wasn’t what you’d call a ‘good girl’. I certainly wasn’t the kind of person people expected to go on and run a business or support others to turn their lives around.

But something shifted in me. I found something I cared about. I found my passion—and slowly but surely, I started to believe in myself. That belief gave me purpose and from there, my whole life began to change.

That’s what we believe in at Emotionally Healthy Minds: the power of change, of second chances, of new chapters. And we see it happen every single day.

In my years of teaching, I saw far too many children falling through the cracks in the system. Not because they weren’t smart or capable, but because they were dealing with big feelings, tough experiences and a lack of confidence that held them back. I knew something had to change—and I wanted to be part of that change.

At Emotionally Healthy Minds, we see your children not just for who they’ve been but for who they’re becoming. When they start to see that too, something shifts; they begin to believe in themselves and that’s when real transformation begins.

So, I started Emotionally Healthy Minds on my own. Within months, there was a long waiting list—proof that the need was real. By September 2023, I began building a team. Now, we’re a growing group of amazing, qualified teachers and coaches, all passionate about making a genuine difference for children and young people.

What started as a small idea has grown into something truly special. I’m incredibly grateful to every parent, child and member of our team who has been part of this journey so far. Thank you for believing in what we do — and in the power of Emotionally Healthy Minds.

Love Sarah,
Founder and Director, EHM
