- Stress, anxiety, or frustration related to learning

The Key Benefits of Tutoring
More parents than ever are turning to tutoring services to provide their children with extra support. Tutoring should be more than just improving academic levels. At EHM, it’s about increasing confidence, self-esteem, motivation and a love for learning.
Learning barriers are broken down, potential is unlocked and hope is restored
Here are some of the most impactful benefits:
Personalised One-on-One Support
As a qualified teacher, I remember the challenges of the classroom well. It was difficult to give every child the individual support they needed, both emotionally and academically. The curriculum was fixed, leaving little room for creativity or adapting lessons to children’s interests.
1-2-1 tutoring is different. The focus is entirely on your child, ensuring lessons are tailored to their unique learning style, strengths and areas of difficulty. Our flexible approach integrates emotion coaching alongside tutoring, which is why our parents choose us.
A Comfortable, Stress-Free Learning Environment
Many of our incredible pupils have experienced school-based trauma and developed a real dislike for school. That’s why we work hard to make our venue feel as different as possible from a traditional classroom.
When our students arrive, they’re greeted with a warm cup of hot chocolate and a variety of refreshments. We play games, have music on all day and create an atmosphere that feels welcoming and fun.
It’s not just about learning; it’s about creating a space where pupils feel calm, motivated, and understood. And you know what? It works. Not all children feel comfortable asking questions or admitting when they don’t understand something in a classroom setting. Tutoring creates a safe space where they can learn without fear of judgment. Our tutors build strong relationships with their students and that rapport is what makes learning so successful.
Identifying and Addressing Learning Challenges
School can be overwhelming for children, especially if they feel like they’re falling behind. If your child has undiagnosed learning difficulties, they may struggle in a traditional classroom setting. Our skilled tutors can help identify these challenges early, providing targeted support and strategies to help them succeed. Whether a child has dyslexia, ADHD, autism or another learning difference, tailored tutoring can make a significant impact.
What Does Tutoring Look Like at Emotionally Healthy Minds?
At EHM, we offer personalised tutoring to support your child's academic progress and overall development. Our tutoring process is designed to provide consistent growth and meaningful improvements over time.
Our Tutoring Process:
Goal Setting
Every six weeks, we work with you and your child to set a clear and achievable academic goal. This goal will be the focus of our tutoring sessions throughout the upcoming period.
Weekly Sessions
During the six-week cycle, we conduct tailored sessions that cater to your child's specific learning needs. These sessions are structured to create a supportive environment, ensuring each one is individually planned to suit their learning style.
Feedback to Parents
After each session, we provide a brief update to you, the parents, highlighting the session's key focus, areas of progress, and any suggestions for reinforcing learning at home.
Progress Review
At the end of each six-week cycle, we reflect on the agreed goal, evaluating the progress made, discussing achievements, challenges and any areas for further development.
Goal Adaptation
Based on the review, we set a new goal for the next cycle or adjust the existing goal to reflect your child's evolving academic needs.
Our approach is designed to promote continuous academic growth, self-confidence, and a love for learning. By working closely with both your child and family, we aim to help them truly thrive in their learning.
One-to-one Tutoring
One-to-one tutoring provides students with the focused attention and tailored guidance they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.
As parents, we all want the best for our children. We want them to learn but most importantly, we want them to be happy.
But what do we do if they start to struggle? When they find certain subjects challenging or feel lost in the classroom environment? What if they are masking their true feelings at school and come home overwhelmed, leading to meltdowns? What if neurodiversity means that their learning style isn’t accommodated in school?
Education isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey. Every child learns in their own way and at their own pace. While some students excel independently, others need additional support to grasp concepts and build confidence.
School can be an incredible place and for some children it works wonderfully for them. However, for some children the traditional school system simply doesn’t fit, and that’s where we come in.
Many students who come to us were once struggling—some were regularly suspended, deeply unhappy, or battling low self-confidence. Through focusing on building resilience, confidence and a growth-mindset they can thrive and enjoy learning again. We regularly see this in our centre.
Our team consists of experienced, qualified teachers who have taught across a range of ages and needs. We take a relational, creative approach to teaching, using your child’s strengths and interests to unlock learning. While we hold high expectations, we also understand that every child is unique. We meet them where they are, and help them move forward—at their pace, in a way that works for them.
Choosing the right tutor
Not all tutors are the same and finding the right match for your child is essential. Whether your child needs help with a particular subject, study skills, or confidence-building, we’re here to help.
At Emotionally Healthy Minds, we focus on fostering a growth mindset and using resilience strategies with all the students and young people we tutor, helping them to build emotional well-being and self-belief.
Safeguarding and Checks
Our tutors are all qualified, experienced teachers, including current or former classroom teachers, SENCOs, Deputy Heads and members of school leadership teams. We also offer regular training within EHM to ensure our tutors are always at the top of their game.
At EHM, we take safeguarding seriously. We are proud members of The Tutors Association. All of our tutors are fully qualified, insured, undergo regular safeguarding training, and have daily checks on the DBS update service, making our safeguarding processes as robust as possible.
If you’re looking for a tutoring service that takes a compassionate, tailored approach to your child’s education, we’d love to support you and your family.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who are your tutors?
Our tutors are experienced, qualified educators with specialised training in their subject areas and in supporting children with diverse learning needs. They are passionate about helping students succeed, and adapt their teaching methods to meet the unique needs and learning styles of each child.
What makes EHM different from other tutoring companies?
EHM combines academic tutoring with emotional health support. We understand that educational success and emotional well-being are interconnected, so we integrate strategies to build confidence, reduce anxiety and foster a positive growth mindset alongside traditional tutoring. We tailor our approach to each child’s unique needs and work closely with parents, teachers and mental health professionals to set goals.
When is the best time to start tutoring?
The best time to start tutoring is as soon as you notice your child struggling or falling behind. Early intervention can prevent small issues from becoming bigger challenges and help your child build the skills and confidence they need to succeed. When you see that their self-confidence is negatively impacted by challenges with their learning, it’s time to start tutoring with EHM.
What age do you tutor?
We work with children and young people from EYFS, primary school and secondary school, typically ages 4 to 18. Our programs are tailored to meet the developmental needs of each age group.
Which subjects do you cover?
We offer tutoring in a wide range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science and more.
Do you provide tutoring for GCSEs?
No, we don’t currently provide tutoring for GCSEs. Our tutoring focuses on EYFS and the KS1–3 curriculum and we can work with children from age 4–18 to teach this material. Many of our students come to us with significant gaps in their learning which are preventing them from meeting their expected level. Our aim is to fill these gaps to help increase their knowledge and confidence.
How long are the sessions?
Tutoring sessions typically last between 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the student’s needs. We find this duration optimal for maintaining focus and achieving meaningful progress. Regular, weekly sessions support children and young people to progress steadily and continuously, helping them with the retention of new knowledge and learning.
What does a typical tutoring session look like?
Our tutoring sessions at EHM are designed to be both fun and effective, with the approach depending on your child’s age, personality and ability. We believe learning should be enjoyable, so we incorporate games and activities that align with each child’s interests.
For younger children or those with energetic personalities, we might use hands-on activities, interactive games, or storytelling to teach concepts in a way that captures their imagination. Older students or those who prefer a quieter approach may benefit from focused discussions, problem-solving exercises or creative projects. We adapt each session to meet your child’s unique needs and interests, ensuring they are engaged and excited to learn.
